Food Storage in Travel

Food Storage in Travel

Store your food properly to transport it safely

Perishables should be in a chilled area. If the time of travel will be more than one hour, plan ahead and pack an insulated container with ice.

Place raw meat and poultry in individual plastic bags to prevent meat from contaminating other foods.

It would be easiest to just bring nonperishable foods and/or foods that don't require an alternate temperature setting for safety.

Kitchen Sanitation

It's important to keep your kitchen clean

It's important to keep everything clean. Wash your hands and clean all surfaces frequently to eliminate bacteria.

Don't cross-contaminate working surfaces with raw meats and vegetables. Use separate storage containers and wash utensils when moving between foods.

Storing food safely is a very important step of keeping a kitchen sanitary. Foods needing refrigeration should be refrigerated whenever not in use, and other foods should be put away.

Cooking foods thoroughly will prevent bacteria foodborne illnesses.

Cooking Safety

Cooking Safety

Did you know that cooking fires are the #1 cause of home fires?

Cooking can be dangerous if not properly carried out. Know the safety rules. Always be aware of the possibility of a fire. Keep flammable things away from the stove.

Never leave the kitchen while cooking, especially if there are children in the area. If you need to leave, turn it off first.

Always have a properly certified and charged fire extinguisher near the cooking area.

In case of a fire, either try to smother the fire, or just call 911 immediately.
